Slow Food Utah hosts a “Chef-Producer Mingle” annually that provides an opportunity for local restaurant chefs to meet local farmers and food producers. Our goal is to cultivate relationships and promote the availability and use of local foods. The event is akin to a mini-trade show, with farmers and producers able to bring examples of their products to display, business brochures, price lists, and more.
The Mingle is a friendly forum for chefs to learn about the availability of local farm products directly from producers, and for producers to find potential new markets for their products. Farmers get to know the buyers at the restaurants, and can build mutually beneficial relationships that over time will strengthen the local food community. Buyers can work with farmers on custom orders, or even partner on upgrading facilities or specialty production.
Board member Jude Rubadue organizes the event, which usually takes place in late winter. It is open to chefs and producers, not the general public. For more information or to be added to the event mailing list, email SlowFoodUtah@xmission.com.
