Look for the Snail of Approval at Home and On the Road
Can you believe it? Summer is almost here! Are you planning a get-away soon, now that things are finally more open? A nice relaxing trip is what we all need, after the last couple years! Want to find eateries and farms in your destination that live up to the Slow Food mission of good, clean, fair food for all? Are you looking for a restaurant that is “Slow Food approved”? There’s now an easy way to do that!
Slow Food USA has launched a national program called the “Snail of Approval”. Chapters all around the country are participating. The Snail of Approval is a way for a food business, farm, fishery, winery, or restaurant to receive recognition for their good practices, and also makes it easy for travelers and eaters to find businesses in their area that meet the Slow Food standards. This is about more than good food – it’s about making commitments to the environment, local communities, employees and purveyors, and our core values of antiracism and anti-oppression. Businesses apply to their local chapters for the award and are selected based on their commitment to Slow Food values. This program recognizes the impact of vital food organizations and aims to create nationwide awareness of these producers and purveyors. The goal is to stimulate greater support for these important businesses— by eating, participating, volunteering, patronizing, donating, and spreading the word.
Slow Food Utah is getting ready to launch this program in our area, but we already have 14 awardees on the map – check it out here https://slowfoodusa.org/
